Years before MainStreet held its first worship service, God had planted the dream in Jeremy's heart. It started back in 2005 with a midnight prayer walk under the stars when Jeremy heard God's call to reach Mound Westonka youth. Jeremy launched and led the Revolution Teen Ministry from 2005-07. Five years later (summer 2010), Jeremy sat on his prayer rock by Lost Lake (see photo) and said "yes" to God's call to start a new church to reach his hometown. These early days of chasing a God-sized dream required trusting in the God "who calls into existence things that do not yet exist" (Rom. 4:17).
Keri and Jeremy were assessed and comissioned by the Evangelical Covenant in Nashville in April 2010. They began sharing the MainStreet vision and recruiting a Launch Team that summer. With no parent church, MainStreet started with just two people, a big dream and a big God. Excelsior Covenant Church soon embraced the Berg's and the MainStreet vision and would provide much help along the way. (Watch original vision video here.)
After a full year of raising funds and gathering a Launch Team of about 30 people, MainStreet held monthly preview services at the Gillespie Center in the Fall of 2011 with the help of many Excelsior Covenant "mission friends." The Grand Launch of weekly worship services was celebrated on January 15, 2012, with 180 people in attendance and an overflowing parking lot.
MainStreet's vision is to be a church "in the marketplace daily with all who happen to be there" (Acts 17:17). In order to fulfill this vision, MainStreet needed to find a 7-days a week location in the heart of downtown Mound. So, only 6 months into weekly services MainStreet began raising funds to lease and buildout a coffeeshop-style ministry space in the Stonegate Plaza strip mall. (See newspaper article.) After a few months of worship in the Presbyterian Homes Chapel (Lake Mtka Shores) MainStreet celebrated the Grand Opening of the MainStreet Gathering Place on Easter 2013 with standing room only.
Ever since opening the doors in the Stonegate Plaza, MainStreet has been drawing more and more people in need of a fresh start and looking for an honest, come-as-you-are church community.
